Position Title: Field Service Engineer / Assembler
Location: Billerica, MA (Headquarters)
Employment Type: Full Time - Regular


Position Description:
Provide on-site and telephone support, installation, training and repair service for microarrayer and imager customers.  Provide internal lab equipment support and instrument assembly and test support.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate pre-installation requirements directly with customer.  Travel to customer site to un-crate, position, and make electrical and facilities connections.  Perform initial setup and adjustment, and run test prints to ensure proper operation.
  • Provide periodic on-site trouble-shooting, repairs on machines that may be experiencing electrical, mechanical or pneumatic problems.  Issues may be application specific at times so the field service engineer must develop an understanding of the applications as well as the operation of the arrayer.
  • Coordinate with the Aushon engineering and applications group as required to resolve issues.  Provide accurate and relevant technical feedback to in-house resources to satisfactorily resolve all issues.
  • Manage a preventive maintenance schedule for installed base of arrayers.
  • Provide detailed technical feedback and update customer service database after each customer visit.
  • Schedule may, at times, include travel up to 75% of workweek, as well as occasional weekend work to meet customer needs.  Though there is European service support, travel will include international sites as well as domestic.
  • When not traveling, the field service engineer will provide internal support to instruments used in Aushon labs, and will also assist in building, aligning, and testing instrument subassemblies and final assemblies.

Position Requirements:

  • At least two year technical degree or equivalent experience in electro-mechanical technology
  • At least three years in field engineering positions servicing complex electro-mechanical devices, biotech or medical instruments or other large capital equipment and high demand customer locations
  • Experience dealing directly with customers and a track record of prioritizing customer satisfaction 
  • Demonstrated customer management skills, strong interpersonal skills and commitment to customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to trouble-shoot complex electrical and mechanical problems to the component level.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude including using critical alignment tools holding tolerances of .0001”.
  • Ability to provide telephone technical support and to effectively communicate (telephone and email) with Aushon engineers and applications scientists.
  • Knowledge of multi-axis robots or microarrayers is desirable.
  • Knowledge of lab operations and assay processes is desirable.
